House actress Olivia Wilde eloped with Italian filmmaker Tao Ruspoli at a very young age. The actress admits that deciding to elope at age 18 was impulsive and noted that she found herself growing out of the relationship as she matured. Fortunately the actress’ recent divorce seems to have been amicable and Wilde still admires and respects her ex.
Even an amicable divorce can be a difficult experience to go through. In addition to the emotional impact of a divorce, there are many legal considerations in each divorce. Individuals who marry at young ages are less likely to have prenuptial agreements. This means that the divorce process may involve complicated property division issues which may create unexpected surprises for those involved.
Couples with children have additional challenges in determining how custody will be shared and how much parenting time is appropriate given the dynamics of a particular family. Child support may also be a factor in cases involving one parent who has primary custody of the children.
Wilde does not have any children with Ruspoli, so child custody will not be an issue in her divorce, which she said has caused her to grow as an actress.
“It makes you feel like such a failure, but I think this whole traumatic year has made me a better actor,” Wilde said. “And the good thing about getting divorced young – if there is a good thing – is that it makes you realize there’s no schedule in life. It blasts you wide open and frees you to be honest with yourself.”
