Allen Iverson may face jail for failing to pay child support

Child Support has provided aid for many children across the United States. With the unpaid child support debt over $100 billion in America, many children have suffered as a result. Child support has also been abused in some cases by recipients. Either way, if the courts deem child support necessary, a parent has a legal obligation to fulfill payments. Currently there are numerous Montgomery residents who have to make monthly child support payments. When an individual fails to pay child support, they can potentially face jail time. For former NBA MVP Allen Iverson, this may be a reality.

The former 76ers player may face jail time for his $40,000 in unpaid child support. After his divorce was finalized in February, Iverson's ex wife got maternal custody of their five children. The court ordered Iverson to pay $8,000 a month to his ex-wife but she claims she has not received any money. Iverson's ex-wife demands that her former 38-year-old husband be placed in jail if he cannot come up with the money. The two are due back in court shortly.

Child support has continued to remain a difficult matter to settle in family court. Anytime there is a large disparity in income between spouses, one may be required to pay the custodial parent money for child support. The state of Tennessee has a set of guidelines to help determine if child support is required and how much should be paid each month. It usually depends on child custody, income and parental time. But the process can often vary drastically between couples.

No two divorces are the same. Any Montgomery resident concerned about child support or considering getting a modification may find an attorney to be helpful.
