Celebrity divorces and property division disputes are constantly in the news. Often, a highly-publicized custody dispute accompanies a celebrity divorce; allegations fly back and forth as the couple fights for custody of their children.
One celebrity in particular has been in the headlines recently due to his pending divorce, angry rants, and accusations of domestic violence. For Charlie Sheen, reports of his wild lifestyle, drug problems, and legal woes have saturated the news. But now Sheen has two more things to worry about: a temporary restraining order and the inability to see his sons.
Sheen, best known for his role in Wall Street and his current fame from the television series Two and a Half Men, separated from his wife Brooke Mueller back in the winter of 2009. The two had been together for over a year when Mueller filed for divorce after Sheen was arrested for domestic assault.
Sheen and Mueller have twin sons together who are almost 2 years old. Just yesterday, the two boys were taken from Sheen’s home. Mueller had filed for a restraining order against Sheen after more reports of threats and domestic violence surfaced. She was worried that the kids were not safe in Sheen’s care. The temporary restraining order was granted. Sheen currently does not know where his two sons were taken and is barred from coming within 100 feet of them or Mueller.
According to the article, Mueller will have primary custody of the two boys when the divorce is finalized. It is unclear what sort of custody and visitation rights Sheen may be seeking. But given the circumstances, there are a lot of factors working against him.
Courts look at what’s in the best interests of the children involved. That means that the accusations of violence, the threats, the partying lifestyle, the substance abuse, and any previous criminal convictions will be taken into account.
