Many Montgomery residents are familiar with the hit show “Game of Thrones,” which returned to TV for its third season a few weeks ago. The show has reached record ratings, but for one cast member, divorce proceedings reportedly have caused a financial crisis. Lena Headey, better known as Queen Regent Cersei Lannister, allegedly claims that she has less than five dollars in her bank account as a result of ongoing divorce proceedings from Irish musician Peter Loughran. The couple is also facing a child custody dispute over their 2-year-old son.
The couple decided to call it quits after only five years of marriage. Recently, Loughran requested to be awarded half of the couple’s $46,000 tax refund, while Headey demanded only $6,000 of it for immediate funds to help support her and the couple’s 2-year-old child. The judge denied both of their requests and it is unclear how the court will resolve the issue.
Now living on credit and desperate for cash, Headey is allegedly struggling to support her son while she awaits the finalization of her divorce and child custody battle. Typically, in most ‘no fault’ states like Tennessee, child custody generally is awarded to both parents as long as they are both suitable to raise the child. The courts will look at income and the role each parent had in the child’s life during the marriage in order to determine who gets primary custody of the child. The courts generally rule based on what is the best interest of the child. Therefore, any time that one parent can no longer support the child, custody may be granted to the other parent, assuming that he or she is financially stable. For Headey, it is unpredictable what will happen. The actress claims she is expecting a large payday soon from her role in the show.
Many Montgomery residents struggle with child custody and financial issues, whether they are celebrities or not. All such residents are subject to the same child custody and divorce laws and standards.
