Your Legal Guide Through Life’s Twists And Turns

Signs you are ready for divorce according to psychologists

If you’re thinking about divorce, but not yet sure if it’s time, you might want to consider speaking with a mental health counselor or psychologist. Getting therapy is a great way to evaluate what your needs are and gain clarity on the best way of meeting those needs. At the very least, however, you might want to reflect on whether the following signs of divorce are true for you.

Here are three signs you’re ready to divorce according to Psychology Today:

  • The inability to resolve conflicts: If you can’t seem to resolve your arguments, and you constantly give up when you get into a fight. It could be a sign that you don’t value your relationship enough to stay in it any longer.
  • You’re emotionally disengaged: If you’re not willing to talk with your partner about your feelings — or if you feel emotionally numb and you can’t get out of that state — it could be time to discuss the future practicality of your relationship.
  • Disaffection: This happens after a lack of emotional engagement — a lack of affection. Disaffection could feel like you have “fallen out of love.”

Ultimately, the decision to get a divorce is a personal one and the process involved in arriving at that decision will be different from everybody. However, one thing is certain — you will know when it’s time and you will likely take the necessary actions required to protect your needs. One way of evaluating your readiness for divorce, aside from speaking with a therapist, is to talk with a divorce lawyer about what you can expect in your proceedings.
