Vanessa Long calls off divorce from Bishop Eddie Long, for now

| Feb 17, 2012 | Divorce

Filings in the divorce case “Long vs. Long” indicate that Vanessa Long recently had her divorce case against Bishop Eddie Long dismissed without prejudice. Vanessa reportedly asked for her divorce petition to be dismissed, which is the second time in three months that this has happened.

Eddie Long rose to national prominence as a “Megachurch” pastor and his fame only seemed to increase after investigations were launched into alleged financial malfeasance and a scandal erupted after several underage male members of the church reported being molested by the pastor. This case highlights the trouble that many marriages have when one spouse rises to prominence and accusations are lodged against the spouse.

Vanessa decided to divorce her husband of 21-years in early December but has publicly waivered on her decision since then. “I love my husband,” she said. “I believe in him and admire his strength and courage.”

She also said that the “years of attacks” on her husband in the media have worn on her and that she feels “frustrated and overwhelmed.” Vanessa has never spoken publically about the allegations against her husband and has provided him with a public relations boost by appearing at his side during some of the darkest coverage. It appears that her reluctance to divorce her husband stems both from love and deep religious convictions, and it is unclear whether the divorce will ultimately happen.

“Vanessa is, and has always been, a loving, dedicated and committed wife and mother,” Bishop Long said. “My love for her is deep and unwavering. It remains our sincere desire to continue working together in seeking God’s will in these circumstances.”
