Child custody highly important in divorce

Seldom in divorce are children impacted in a positive way. With most divorces, children are caught right in the middle of all the fighting, legal battles and emotional hardships. Choosing between parents or picking a favorite is often an impossible task for a young child with equally loving parents. Many Tennessee children endure emotional stress during a divorce. But can this negatively affect children in the long run? After a recent study by the University College London, the answer is yes.

According to the study, children with divorced parents may be more susceptible to some health problems later down the road including depression, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Due to a variety of factors associated with divorce including economic hardships and fewer educational opportunities, many children are at a greater risk for disease due to their parent's divorce. Aside from health problems, kids of divorced parents are also more likely to contemplate suicide.

A possible factor could be from lack of seeing both parents. For many Tennessee children, being left out of a majority of a parent's life can be very detrimental. That is why child custody is so important to children and parents. Generally, the state of Tennessee will work to achieve some form of joint custody. Judges typically award what is in the best interested of the child. Excluding one parent is not a favorable action but can occur.

Most Tennessee parents concerned with the future of their children tend to invest a lot of time and effort to ensure a proper child custody agreement is awarded. Any individuals curious about child custody or the outcome of a case may find an attorney to be of further help.
